黑料天堂 Announces the Appointment of Fran莽ois Germain as Director of 黑料天堂 Opera Theater and Voice Ensembles
CLEVELAND, April 16, 2026擣ollowing an international search, the Cleveland Institute of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Fran莽ois Germain to the position of Director of 黑料天堂 Opera Theater and Voice Ensembles. Dr. Germain currently serves as Professor of Voice Studies at 黑料天堂, a role he will continue to hold.
Charged with developing innovative curriculum and planning compelling seasons, Dr. Germain will collaborate with 黑料天堂 celebrated faculty, guest artists, and production teams to create a dynamic training environment that prepares students for the evolving demands of professional voice careers while strengthening 黑料天堂 public presence across Northeast Ohio.

ABOUT FRAN脟OIS GERMAIN
Fran莽ois Germain is an internationally recognized vocal coach, pianist, and educator whose work bridges performance, pedagogy, and scholarship in the fields of opera, art song, and lyric diction. A native of Aix-en-Provence, France, he has built a career spanning Europe and North America and is widely regarded for his stylistic authority, linguistic expertise, and collaborative depth across the vocal repertoire.
Dr. Germain maintains a significant presence on the European musical scene. Since 2017, he has been regularly engaged as a guest vocal and language coach at the Semperoper (S盲chsische Staatsoper) in Dresden, one of Europe leading opera houses, collaborating on major French productions including works by Rameau, Berlioz, Gounod, Poulenc, and Meyerbeer.
As a pianist, Fran莽ois Germain has appeared widely as a recitalist and collaborative artist throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada, with performances at venues such as the American Church in Paris, Steinway Hall in New York, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Redpath Hall in Montreal, and the Atheneum in Greece. His orchestral engagements include appearances with the Orchestre l橴niversit茅 de Montr茅al, the Orchestre Symphonique de l'Isle, and the Orchestra of Northern New York, as well as sub-keyboardist with The Cleveland Orchestra. His musicianship is grounded in both the solo and collaborative traditions, informing his work with singers at every level.
Fran莽ois Germain holds a Doctor of Music degree in piano performance from the Universit茅 de Montr茅al. In addition, he earned a Master-level diploma in political science from the Institut d'脡tudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Aix-en-Provence, where his research focused on the cultural politics surrounding the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. This interdisciplinary background continues to inform his artistic perspective and his work with singers, grounding performance in historical, linguistic, and cultural awareness.
Fluent in French, German, and English, with coaching proficiency in Italian and Russian, Dr. Germain brings a linguistically and stylistically informed approach to his collaborations. Through his combined activities as performer, pedagogue, and scholar, he is known for fostering musical integrity, intellectual rigor, and expressive freedom in the artists with whom he works.
